Boscombe community walkers are 'hiking for their health' around the local area each week.
Led by trained volunteer walk leaders, the Bournemouth-based society arranges organised walks, striving to bring the community together as well as promoting wellbeing.
Every Tuesday and Thursday members of the public gather at Boscombe park to begin their walk at 10 am, usually lasting under an hour.
Being free of charge, the leaders encourage keen walkers of all ages and abilities to get involved with the council run event.
The Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole council brought the event to Boscombe, after being a huge success in surrounding areas just after Covid restrictions were lifted last year.
Jill Oliver, who's been leading the Christchurch walkers for 12 years, commented: “We do it all throughout the year, rain or shine we’ll be walking!”
She added that one of the walking leaders Layne Wallace, Pastor of Rosemary Park Baptist Church, supplies the group with complimentary refreshments for after their walk.
“We are really fortunate to have such a great community walking with us each week… and the cake at the end definitely helps!”
Tina Reidy, Senior Health Walk Leader, commented that she really wants to promote the walking group to the younger generation. “We really want people to get out of their houses, especially after the pandemic.”
Reidy, one of the four leaders in the group, said that the walking routes vary each week including through the Italian Gardens, past Boscombe Pier but always end back at Rosemary Park Baptist Church.
One keen walker expressed his love for the group and expressed that he “never misses a good old walk!” He encourages more people of all abilities to get involved with the community of health walkers in Boscombe.
