Slovenia Travel Blog

Slovenia was such a stunning, picturesque country and country number eight on my trip. I knew it was renowned for its dramatic landscapes and home to some of the most beautiful lakes in the world, but it truly exceeded all of my expectations.

I spent 3 days in the country’s lively capital, Ljubljana. The most incredible-looking buildings lined the streets, with so many live bands, orchestras and even salsa dancing which created such a contagious buzz. The river canals that flowed through the centre made the city have such a rustic feel to it, with all the al fresco cafés and restaurants surrounding it serving the most amazing pizzas and cappuccinos!

Ljubljana had some of the best nightlife that I experienced on my whole trip. The city didn’t seem too touristy when I was there, so we were able to meet so many locals in all the bars and clubs which made the experience really authentic. It was also a plus that the city centre was lively, but never overwhelming. In fact, one thing about Slovenia was that it felt very laid-back and relaxing. Lake Bled is the top tourist attraction in Slovenia and you can completely see why. It was the most stunning place i’ve ever been to without a doubt. It was a place I knew I wanted to visit on this trip, and I definitely want to go back. There’s so many bars, cafés and quaint little restaurants around the lake but they were a bit out of my budget! But, it could be made a really cheap trip as you can make a day out of just walking/cycling around the town and lakeside as it’s so photogenic. I spent five days in Bled but I would recommend spending more. We hired bikes and cycled round the circumference of the lake, stopping off at all the swimming spots where there’s slides and inflatable assault courses. You do have to pay to swim in some of the areas which did surprise me, but it was definitely worth it.

There’s so many bars, cafés and quaint little restaurants around the lake but they were a bit out of my budget! I would recommend staying as close to

the lake as possible because there is so much to do around there. You can make a day just out of cycling around the town as it’s so photogenic.

There are so many activities around the lake that you can take part in. We went paragliding over Lake Bled which was such an incredible experience, even though the language barrier meant there was a lack of health and safety precautions! It was expensive but worth every penny.

We also went tobogganing down Straza Hill next to the lake. We were also able to get a chair lift up to the top to see the amazing views around Lake Bled. You can hire Pletna boats to row out to the Bled island which was not as easy as it looked!

We woke up at 3am one morning to hike up to Osojnica Viewpoint which was the most incredible outlook over the whole of the lake and the Julian Alps. The hiking route is quite well known, but I wouldn’t underestimate how long and how steep the trek is! The sunrise

over the lake was so surreal didn’t look remotely real. This was a real once in a life time moment for me, and will forever stand out from my trip. The way I would describe Slovenia would be charming. It felt like such an authentic place, with such a benevolent, friendly vibe. The greenery throughout the vibrant towns combined with the incredible landscapes should make everyone add this country to their bucket lists.
