Dartmouth Park and Ride decision postponed to ensure community input

Dartmouth Park and Ride decision postponed to ensure community input.

South Hams District Council has decided to postpone the decision on the proposed Dartmouth Park and Ride service by a week.

The delay allows for further discussions with Dartmouth Town Council and the Chamber of Commerce to ensure that the Park and Ride service aligns with the needs of the community and visitors.

The Committee expressed their enthusiasm for collaborating with the town on these proposals and decided to delay making an executive decision.

The committee acknowledged the progress made so far, including the No. 92 bus service.

Executive Member for Community Services and Operations, Cllr Victor Abbott said: "The Park and Ride has been costing us a huge amount of money to subsidise and for 14 years we haven’t raised prices, while everything around us has gone up massively. If the service is to remain running similarly to it is now, then something needs to change.”

The committee will reconvene for a Special Executive Meeting on March 13, when the executive plans will then get the views of Dartmouth residents in a 21-day consultation.

The committee also agreed to continue the existing free parking provisions at the Health Hub, following the agreement in June last year to review residents’ concerns about the parking availability.

Eight extra free one-hour parking spaces will be available, and Blue Badge holders will gain the use of an extra free hour parking in the Blue Badge Bays.

This will again be reviewed in September.

Cllr Victor Abbott said: “The parking at the Health Hub has been working well over the past six months. We’re happy to keep the current arrangements and review again in another six months.”
